Corey Spears is a Health Level Seven (HL7®) FHIR® standards expert and HL7 Fellow with over 25 years of healthcare industry experience and more than two decades in software engineering, architecture, and standards development. He has spent his career helping organizations translate complex interoperability use cases in specifications and standards to put into practical, real-world solutions.

Corey is a long-time member of HL7 International and Co-Chair of the HL7 FHIR Infrastructure Work Group, actively contributing to national interoperability initiatives and the advancement of healthcare data standards.

At Lantana, Corey supports the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) FHIR Strategy initiative by providing technical policy guidance, thought leadership, and standards expertise. He leads teams developing FHIR Implementation Guides and Reference Implementations that enable industry adoption of specifications meant to address federal interoperability initiatives and serves as primary author of the CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Digital Quality Measures (dQM) FHIR Implementation Guide.

Corey also provides education and mentorship to staff and stakeholders, supports strategic planning and business development, and helps bridge policy, standards, and real-world implementation.
