Liora Alschuler, Chief Executive Officer
Liora became involved in developing standards for health information technology (HIT) interoperability in 1996, shortly after the publication of her book on markup languages—one of the foundational technologies for the World Wide Web, e-commerce, and most of the current HIT standards. In 1997, she led the Kona Architecture project, which developed the foundational architecture for the Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), now used worldwide for health information exchange. She is a current Co-chair and past Director of Health Level Seven International (HL7) and is a founder of the Health Story Project.
In 2005, Liora formed Alschuler Associates, LLC, to create an on-going team of consultants with diverse and complementary skills who could, collectively, respond to the increasing demand for HIT interoperability. Her clients have included the Military Health System (the nation’s largest provider of healthcare services), as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network.
Liora currently lives in East Thetford, Vermont. She holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, a degree in Broadcast Engineering from Milwaukee Area Technical College and completed additional study in physics, mathematics and chemistry at UW Milwaukee and Hunter College in New York. She is a member of the Thetford Planning Commission and lives with one cat.
